Working Together to Protect Farmland in Baille Tourrible

February 28, 2025

On February 26, KANPE and the Groupe d’Action Francophone pour l’Environnement (GAFE) brought the community of Baille Tourrible together for a first communal meeting on the impact of slash-and-burn farming and the solutions needed to protect the land.

In response to growing environmental challenges, this event allowed dozens of residents, experts, and officials to share their concerns and identify concrete actions. One of the major commitments made during the meeting was the creation of a vigilance brigade, responsible for preventing intentional fires and raising awareness about sustainable agricultural practices.

KANPE and GAFE are already taking action with initiatives such as reforestation, beekeeping, and sustainable farming development. Participants also had the opportunity to visit medicinal gardens, beekeeping areas, and agricultural plots dedicated to essential crops like millet, beans, and sugarcane.

These efforts are part of a long-term vision to strengthen agricultural and environmental resilience in Baille Tourrible.
