International Women’s Day

March 8, 2020

This Sunday is International Women’s Day.

Do you know what “Potomitan” means? In Haitian Creole, this word designates the central pillar.

In Haitian homes, the potomitan often refers to the woman who supports the whole family.

Juslène Fleurimond is one of those Potomitan women. At Baille Tourible, she practices small trade and raises animals to meet the needs of her 6 children. She works tirelessly to ensure a better life for them.

Women are found in all aspects of economic and family life in Haiti. From dawn to dusk, they flawlessly provide for the needs of their loved ones.

On International Women’s Day, we salute Juslène and all of these Potomitan women from Haiti.
