Odinave Dominique: A Young Leader Driving Climate Resilience
In Haiti’s Central Plateau, agronomist and experimental farm manager Odinave Dominique is leading a bold initiative to restore lost forests and strengthen his community’s livelihoods in Baille Tourible.
For over 25 years, coffee has no longer grown in Baille Tourible due to climate change and deforestation. 98% of residents are subsistence farmers struggling with increasing droughts and crop failures. To survive, some have turned to cutting down trees for charcoal production, worsening the environmental crisis.
Odinave and his team are working to reintroduce coffee cultivation through an experimental farm supported by Age of Union and managed by KANPE. The farm’s nursery produces over 25,000 seedlings per year, including coffee plants, fruit trees, and forest species, helping with reforestation while creating economic opportunities for the community.
