Seeds of Change in Baille Tourible
Access to quality seeds remains a major challenge for farmers in Baille Tourible, especially for women. To address this need, KANPE supports the creation of seed banks managed by women’s associations, providing female farmers with essential resources while strengthening their role in agricultural production.
Since 2017, these seed banks have distributed thousands of kilograms of black bean seeds to dozens of families. Beyond ensuring seed availability, they operate as a circular funding model: part of each harvest is reinvested into the bank, ensuring the project’s sustainability and the continued redistribution of seeds to other farmers.
This initiative has also empowered women in Baille Tourible, allowing them to take on a greater role in the agricultural sector. The income generated helps finance other initiatives such as microcredit programs and crop diversification, further enhancing their financial independence.
By promoting equitable access to seeds and recognizing the vital role of women in agriculture, these seed banks are more than just a farming tool—they are a driving force for resilience, food security, and sustainable community development. At KANPE, we remain committed to supporting these transformative initiatives that empower women and create a more prosperous future for their families.
