KANPE joins Mouvement Paysan Papaye to support the farming community

April 21, 2016

By partnering with the Haitian organization Mouvement Paysan Papaye (MPP), KANPE supports the farming community of Baille Tourible communal section, where agriculture occupies almost 98% of the local population. This support will be provided to members of the Organization for the Development of Baille Tourible (ODB), a group of farmers from Baille Tourible.

In Haiti, farmers face significant challenges in an area affected by serious food insecurity problems due to its environment, water and soil. They must also deal with economic poverty within their communities, that prevents the development of sustainable and efficient production systems.

Program’s goals

  • Improve farmers sustainable income and living conditions.
  • Increase and diversify agricultural production of the organizations’ members.

Program’s first step: the distribution of seeds

This new program of support to the farming community symbolically began on April 16 with the distribution of bean seeds. This distribution was made to members of the Organization for the Development of Baille Tourible (ODB).

During this first distribution, 131 members of the ODB, men and women, received each 5 seed pots. The distribution will continue on Wednesday April 20 with the other members of the organization.
