Climate change: concrete actions by local communities

November 17, 2022

“The climate crisis has already been solved.
We already have the facts and solutions.
All we have to do is to wake up and change”.
Greta Thunberg.

As the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) draws to a close in Egypt, this reflection by activist Greta Thunberg is more relevant than ever.

For several years now, we have been helping the communities of Baille Tourible in the Central Plateau to build their climate resilience by supporting their agroforestry projects and their efforts to rehabilitate, reforest and conserve local natural resources.

With the help of our local partner Mouvement Paysan Papaye, more than 90,000 seedlings – including about 50,000 since 2021, with the support of the Age Of Union Alliance – have been distributed to the population.

Training is also provided to women and youth in the community. This summer, local women’s associations received training on climate resilience as part of our partnership with the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie du Québec.
