Where We Work

KANPE has been rooted in Haiti’s rural communities since 2011

KANPE has been active in Haiti since 2011, working alongside the country’s most underserved rural communities facing significant structural challenges.

Our work began in the Central Plateau, in Baille Tourible, a communal section of the Thomonde municipality. Isolated and long marginalized, this community faces major challenges: persistent poverty, limited access to essential infrastructure, and accelerated soil degradation due to deforestation.

We initially focused on the center of Baille Tourible and gradually expanded to nearby communities: Marécage, Boucantisse, Corail, and Elmani.

In 2011, our commitment to Baille Tourible became urgent:

  • Extremely limited access: Poor roads made travel difficult, isolating the population from basic services.
  • Major health crisis: During the 2010–2011 cholera epidemic, Baille Tourible was among the hardest-hit areas, with little access to proper medical care.
  • Lack of opportunities: The absence of government services and investment left almost no prospects for development.

Today, KANPE is also present in Loiseau, a communal section in the Northeast Department, facing similar social, economic, and environmental vulnerabilities.

With the support of our local partners, we have implemented sustainable solutions across leadership, entrepreneurship and economic development, education, agroforestry, healthcare, and infrastructure strengthening.
