Code of Ethics

The KANPE Foundation (“KANPE”) fosters a healthy and safe work environment for its employees (permanent or contractual) and volunteers (collectively, the “Stakeholders”), and has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of exploitation, harassment, abuse, and violence, be they physical, psychological, verbal, or sexual in nature.

KANPE insists that every Stakeholder and each member, employee, or volunteer from organizations that partner or collaborate with KANPE (collectively, the “Collaborators”) treats every other Stakeholder, all other Collaborator members, employees, or volunteers, as well as members of communities served by projects and programs funded by KANPE with respect in a healthy and safe work environment free from exploitation, harassment, abuse, and violence.

Furthermore, as both an employer and funder, we require our “Stakeholders” and “Collaborators” to adhere to stated requirements and to take appropriate measures to prevent abuse and to protect victims of abuse when necessary. These measures must address all forms of exploitation, harassment, abuse, and violence between Stakeholders, Collaborators, members of communities served by projects and programs funded by KANPE, or any combination of these groups.

Additional requirements

We require that all of KANPE’s Stakeholders and Collaborators:

  • take all necessary measures to prevent all forms of exploitation, harassment, abuse, or violence;
  • report any violations of this policy to their immediate superiors and local authorities in accordance with applicable laws;
  • provide adequate protection and support to victims, as is reasonable; and
  • immediately suspend any person who is legitimately suspected of having committed an act or acts covered by this policy.

Sanctions

In cases of non-compliance with the requirements listed above, the following sanctions will apply:

  • immediate suspension without pay, when applicable;
  • immediate freezing of funds related to projects underway with the Collaborator, until the problem is adequately addressed; and
  • reporting of the incident to authorities in accordance with applicable laws.

KANPE reserves the right to handle any [media situation] that emerges in relation to any event linked to a violation committed by any Stakeholder or Collaborator in a manner that it sees fit, while respecting the rights of the individuals involved (especially the victims) and in compliance with applicable laws.

Our engagements

KANPE itself complies with this policy and supports its Collaborators in improving their own prevention policies, protection of victims, promotion of a healthy, safe work environment, and their own zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of exploitation, harassment, abuse, or violence.
